GI Appointment

Today was Audrey's Gastrointestinal appointment at Mary Bridge Children s Hospital concerning her constipation. I could not wait to get it over with and finally have some answers. Before we headed downtown I had a decided to have a simple breakfast of English Tea and Blueberry bagels, my favorite! My stomach was in knots so I knew I could not eat a lot before the appointment, so this was perfect! We arrived at the Medical center is about 3pm and was immediately taken back. The nurse got Audrey's weight, height and blood pressure. She is now 12 pounds 10 ounces and is 1 foot 11 inches long at 5 months 2 weeks! After we were checked in and were in our room Dr. Lisa Fachili came in to start the consultation. I explained that if Audrey does not get Caro Syrup in 2 of her bottles and a teaspoon of Mira lax in her juice that Audrey only poops about 3 times a day, has extreme abdominal pain and her poop is hard and dark brown. I also went over her daily diet which the doctor approved of and told me that we were doing a great job of keeping her on track. She explained the 95% of babies with constipation usually just need help because their GI tract is still developing and has a hard time digesting some of the babies food intake. She then said that the other 5% of babies have diseases that have constipation as a side effect. We immediately out ruled 2 of the diseases that cause this and started talking about the 3rd. This disease has to do with the nerves in the spine that do not fully develop and cause motor problems. When Audrey was born on her lower back where the skin is supposed to come together and fuse to protect the nerves did not fully close leaving her with a dimple. The pediatrician at Good Sam did an evaluation to out rule Spinabifida and told us that her nerves looked good and that we didn't have anything to worry about. Upon hearing this Dr. Falichi told us that she will do research and maybe order a MRI to check her spine just to rule this disease out as well. At the end of the appointment Audrey was put on a very gentle laxative to help with her bowel movements. She will be on this for about 2-3 months unless we do not notice a different and have a follow up appointment in a month. While we are doing this we will be waiting to hear from Dr. Falichi about her research and follow up of Audrey's dimple she was born with. I am relieved that there is no apparent disease causing this and that it sound more like her GI tract just needs time to mature and develop and in the mean time Audrey needs help pooping. Thank goodness for good news!

New Duvet cover for Audrey

With only 2 more days until Halloween, I have been trying to finalize plans and Audrey's costume for all the festivities! My Grandma is an amazing seamstress and can make amazing things with all kinds of fabrics so I asked her if she could make a banana for the monkey costume Audrey will be wearing! She went out of her way and made the banana out of a yellow terry cloth washcloth so Audrey can suck on it since she is teething! She drew lines on it and even made a cute little stem! I wish I had my Grandma's talent, there are so many things I wish I could make! On top of making Audrey her banana, my Grandma remembered that I have been asking for a duvet cover and comforter for Audrey, so to my surprise she made this gorgeous duvet cover with a comforter inside with some very adorable and funky fabric! I absolutely love it and it is big enough for Audrey to use it for years! On top of these items she has made me several burp rags out of really funky and adorable fabric! I am so grateful to have my Grandma around and Audrey is one lucky girl to have her GIGI make her cute things that will last a very long time! Besides the surprise visit from my Grandma, today was crazy, with all the cleaning and organizing I have been trying to do that I didn't even bother to make dinner! We had enough leftovers from yesterday which was Cheesy Enchilada hamburger helper for which I added strips of tortilla's and salsa Verde to the dinner to spice it up!Now that Audrey is down for the night I can get some reading done and maybe a shower! Tomorrow is her GI appointment at Mary Bridge Children Hospital so we will be at the hospital for a while!

Lavender Baby Bath I LOVE!!!

So I just have to brag about this this great gift basket from Johnson and Johnson that I registered for and got at my baby shower. It is their Bedtime Baby Bath set with soap, lotion, massage gel, a blanket and a bedtime book! The great thing about it is that the products are made with Lavender which is known to clinically help babies sleep better through the night! It helps to calm and relax them making it easier for them to fall and stay asleep, like aromatherapy for babies! I have only used it a few times but really wanted to put it to the test tonight! I gave Audrey a bath around 11pm after her feeding using the lavender bedtime soap which smells great but not too overpowering so babies dont have a reaction! Once she was dried and had a diaper on I applied the lotion all over her body just to moisturize now that the weather is colder and her skin is somewhat sensative! She was already from what I could tell nice and calm and relaxed after the bath, more so then usual! Once dressed I put her on my shoulder for a few minutes and then into her crib! She fell alseep right away and has been asleep now for a few hours! I highly reccomend this product to all mothers! It is worth every penny, which the basket is $26! You can find it mostly anywhere, I got it from Target which the hyperlink is above!!

La Chambre

Audrey shares a room with us, 1 because its comforting to have her in the same room at night when we all sleep and 2 there just is not enough room in the house for her own room. So when it came time to decorating and adding Audrey's furniture to ours I got really excited! I knew it would mean trips to Ikea and Walmart and Babies R us for ideas! I was doing A LOT of nesting while I was pregnant and I mean A LOT! I would organize and re organize at least 3 times a day! Here is our room so far! I still have things to hang on the wall and I want to add another rug between her Crib and our big dresser to cover the hard wood floors! Our room theme is very Parisian inspired with little kid funky! We have a long way to go but here it is so far! This is the far wall in the room by the window! The rug, dresser and photo of the Eiffel Tower are from Ikea and the rest is from Babies R us!This is the wall on the same side of the door and to the left of the window! The dresser and green table are from ikea! The Parisian Fashion boxes and cylinder are from Ross! I have 2 photos to hang above the dresser that my Grandma got me!This is the wall opposite the crib and window! All the bedding is from Ikea! The large Paris photo is from Cost Plus and the little Paris picture in black and white is from Target! It was my Mothers Day Gift from Nathan and my girls! I have little knick knacks on the side table mostly photos! On the wall to the right of the bed I am going to hang up the black and white photo of Paris and I have a 3 photos of Chateaus in Paris also from Cost Plus! Like I said I still have a long way to go before the room is done but I love it so far!

The Last Few Days!

These past few days have been hectic to say the least! We have been doing a lot of running around and pricing things for future reference. Like for example, I am a huge money saver now that I am a Mom. You will never realize how much a baby costs until you have one. Case in point, Audrey goes through about 300 diapers a month give or take depending on if her system can digest her food intake properly. Now that she is in size 2 diapers the quantity of diapers in a package is reduced by 8 diapers, but I am still paying about $7.50 a package for LUVS.That means instead of only buying 6 packages I now have to buy 7 to have enough for the month! At 7.50 that makes my total diaper expense about $5 8 for the month. I decided to do some research comparing Costco's package of Huggies size 2 which is 258 at $43 to Wal Marts 294 at $58. Although I am getting only getting 258 diapers I am saving a good chunk of money on diapers which is always good in my book! I also priced their organic baby food and can save around $5 on 36 jars by buying them at Costco or I can go to the commissary on base and get a jar for $.35 cents which is even cheaper then Costco! Saving money is fun and it feels good knowing that I can give my baby good quality for good prices!Today I bought her these really cute bibs to wear all the time now that is drooling all the time and eating more solid foods! They fit her personality so well and they give everyone a good little laugh! I also found these great scarves for myself at Sportco for only $1.50. I asked if it was a mistake but she informed me that it wasn't! I picked up 2 of them! 1 in this great burnt orange and 1 in a light green!
I love great deals and have been finding a lot that have been hard to resist! I have also been doing some new dinner ideas which some are hits and misses but most of them are HITS! Nathan loves eating my experiments and already has favorites! Tonight was homemade Chicken Pot Pie from this recipe! I made the crust from scratch and used carrots, broccoli and corn with chunks of onion and garlic! It was amazing and again was perfect for this wet cold weather! Overall the last few days have been great! I am looking forward to Audrey's first Halloween and spending time with family!

Close Call

This week as felt so long! With Nathan finally home we decided to get some errands done concerning Audrey! At her 4 month check up the nurse gave her a flu shot and informed us that we would need to bring her in for a 2nd shot 30 days after the initial immunization. So our plan for today was to go get her 2nd flu shot, put her name down for the H1N1 vaccine for when it came in, go to Costco and price size 2 diapers now the she finally fits them and then go buy some fruits and veggies to make into baby food! Well Toby, the nurse, called last night to inform me that the flu shot Audrey was given is not building up antibodies in her system because she is too young. She was actually supposed to get the shot at 6 months old and then come back at 7 months. With this new news we decided to cancel our errands and just stay home. In the end this means that Audrey, at her 6 month visit, will get the 1st flu shot again and the H1N1 and then we will need to bring her back for the 2nd flu shot when she is 7 months. I decided to decorate the house for Halloween with the little decorations we have! It looks very simple and cute! Audrey is down for a nap, she is unusually fussy these last few days. I cant wait until her GI appointment to find out if there is anything going on her with her insides that we can fix! I am not in the mood to cook tonight but im sure I can whip something up! Last night we had Grilled turkey and cheese sandwiches with tomato soup. Comfort food in this wet cold weather is perfect!

A Day out with Mommy!

With one more day until Nathan comes home I decided that we could use some fresh air! I had a few errands to run before dinner so it was the perfect time. Its hard to leave the house when he is gone I would rather just stay home and cuddle with Audrey then spend our time running around all day in the car. I decided to flea bomb the house, our cat got out not that long ago and since fleas are everywhere it was much needed. While we were out I took Audrey to go see Nathans Mom over at her work for a little visit! When we walked in Grandma Lorie was cutting someones hair so we sat and waited but while we did the lady kept complimenting me on how beautiful Audrey is! It made me smile and made my day! She was complimenting how well Audrey was a mixture of Nathan and I!She has my red hair and her daddy's curls! I think as she starts to grow up she will look more and more like her sister Hayley who is 6! Hayley funny enough looks like she could be my birth daughter which makes our bond even stronger! On a good note Audrey is starting to warm up to strangers better and she usually always has a smile on her face! After spending some time at the salon with Grandma we went to buy more formula and I needed to pick up some things for dinner tonight! Dinner was bacon wrapped oven roasted chicken with a poppy seed and caramelized onion sauce with rice pilaf! I used this low calorie poppy seed salad dressing from Safeway that i simply garnished the chicken with before putting it in the oven for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees! It turned out great and tasted amazing, very fast too about 15 minutes prep with wrapping the chicken and the rice! While I was cooking dinner she was sitting in her boppy watermelon chair in the kitchen watching me! It was very cute! For dessert I made simple white cake cupcakes with vanilla frosting that I dyed orange for Halloween with orange sprinkles!Today was a long day but I am glad that its starting to wind down! Audrey is finally down for her usual nap. Lately I have been noticing her scheduling changing so it has been throwing things off but I am hoping we can get her back on track soon!

5 months today!!!

Today Audrey turned 5 months old! I cant believe it! The time has gone by so fast it feels like! We have done so much in the last 5 months and there are so many things to look forward to in the next 7 until she is 1! When we took her in for her 4 month check up she weighed 11 pounds 12 ounces (10%) and 23 3/4 inches (20%)! She has been gaining .5 pounds since she was born making her today around 13 pounds 12 ounces!! She is still tiny compared to other babies her same age but she has come along way since birth! To celebrate her 5 month mark we decided to stay home and relax! We had our usual morning routine and tried to work on her tummy time and sittin up! She still struggles with being on her tummy because of the pain it causes her in her abdomen but she getting more tolerant! Sitting up on her own will take around another month or so to get down but she tries to sit up all the time which is great!! She is so full of life and talks all the time! I have been taking random videos of her talking and cooing that I will hopefully post! Daddy is still gone til Thursday but I made home made beef meatballs and whole grain spaghetti for dinner! Audrey can only taste the sauce but she seemed to like it! In a few days I have to take her in for her flu shot #2 and I am waiting for the approval to give her the H1N1 vaccine! This week feels like its moving in slow motion but I love being able to just hang around the house and stay in sweats and Audrey! 3 more days until Daddy gets home!

Baked Pork Chops with Parmesan Oregeno Crust Recipe

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh breadcrumbs made from crustless French bread
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese (about 3 ounces)
  • 1 tablespoon dried rubbed sage
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 4 bone-in center-cut pork loin chops (each about 1 inch thick)

Preheat oven to 425°F. Mix breadcrumbs, cheese, sage and lemon peel in pie dish. Whisk eggs in medium bowl to blend. Place flour on plate; season generously with salt and pepper. Coat pork chops on both sides with flour; shake off excess. Dip chops into eggs, then coat on both sides with breadcrumb mixture.

Melt butter with oil in heavy large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Add pork chops to skillet and cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer skillet with pork to oven. Bake until pork chops are crisp on the outside and meat thermometer inserted into pork registers 150°F, about 20 minutes.

Photos!

I LOVE MOMMY AND DADDY!
Ever since having Audrey I am obsessed with taking photos of her doing everyday things! I love looking at photos of my sisters and I when we were little and hearing the stories that go along with them! I am nervous sometimes that I will miss something she does that she will want to hear about so I always have my camera with me! Yesterday after running to the mall and walmart I came home and spent some good quality time with Audrey! I took a ton of photos of her and I, her sitting up and playing in her new watermelon boppy chair! She loves taking photos and loves the camera! She is always enthralled with the camera! She scopes it out, hence why most of the photos are of her looking at the camera instead of the lens!! Today was nothing special! We woke up around 10:30 for the final time and decided to get out of bed for the day! I turned on her TV shows and fed her then got to work on house chores!!I deep cleaned the kitchen and then redecorated the kitchen table with more fall decor! Im off to make pork chops and stuffing with corn for dinner! 4 more days until Nathan comes home! I cant wait! We miss Daddy so much!! XOXO

Great Weekend!

This weekend was beyond fun! Friday night was a very low key night! While Nathan was packing and getting ready for his fishing trip, my Mom and I watched The Proposal! It was a very funny/cute movie! I highly recommend it! I made tortallini in a homemade butter garlic brocelli sauce with chicken for dinner and then peanut butter cup cookies, some I sent with Nathan and his friend Joe. Saturday was full of errands, in the morning Nathan and I went to buy pellets for the stove since its been pretty cold now a days, nothing new for washington though. My best friend Amber called and wanted to go the mall for some new pillows for her bed! After the mall we met with with our best friend Sam for some more retail therapy at the Lakewood Towne Centre and then back home. Sunday is usually for a day of rest but not for me! My godmother and nephew Sylvan came over for Seahawks football and BRUNCH! Sylvan carved his large pumpkinand played with Audrey! After the game Barbara and I went to the mall for some more retail therapy! I picked up these really bohemian style earings for only $6 at Papaya! Overall it was a great weekend! I got to see my best friends and family and have good fun and food! I miss Nathan, he is gone until Thursday night!

Love/Hate Walmart

I have a love hate relationship with Walmart. Whenever I need something my first place is always walmart. It is great for my budget and they always have what I want! They are especially pocket friendly on Audrey's formula and baby food! I spend about $17 a can on formula and Audrey goes through about 10 cans a month. Recently Dr. Wells switched Audrey's formula from Similac Neosure which promotes growth for premature babies to Similac Soy which is easier to digest. I was going through my kitchen about 2 weeks ago and realized I had about 9 unopened cans of her old formula. Nathan and I decided to take them back to walmart even though we didn't have the receipt. We knew they would give us a gift card for in store credit. We ended up only taking in 6 cans the first time getting a $93 gift card but today when I tried to take the other cans in, they refused to take the cans back and told me to just donate them. I hate when 1 person there does 1 thing and then when I am helped by a whole other person they either refuse or choose to not treat me the same. I spend too much money a week/month there for them not to give me my money back even if i dont have a reciept. I wish everyone would all do the same so I dont have to play a guessing game everytime I go becuase everyone is different there. Other then that slip up today was a fun day! We ran a few other errands and them came home! While Audrey slept I cleaned the house and started dinner! We had a very simple quick dinner! I made chicken cheese quesadillas with corn and salsa! They were just the right size and tasted delicious for this cold weather! I also finally cleaned out our pellet stove so now the fire burns bright making my living room very cozy!! Until tomorrow! Happy October!

The curse of Tuesdays

Today was another really relaxing day! We all didn't do much of anything for once in a long time! I did manage to clean the house and make a mean pork roast with chicken honey Dijon onion sauce for dinner with pasta! It tasted really good and there is enough for left overs for lunch tomorrow! YUM!Audrey was in a really good mood today! Recently, mostly this week, she has been barely sleeping. Our usual routine is she gets fed around midnight and then I put her to bed. She sleeps for 6 hours and then wakes up for another feeding which lasts about an hour and that includes diaper changes. After she is fed and changed and we talk for more a minute she is ready to go back to sleep until her next feeding around 10 or 11.Well everything was going great and then Tuesday rolls around. We get her up for her usual 6 am feeding, get her changed and fed and put back in her crib. Except when we layed her down in her crib with her Binky, her stuffed bunny and her mobile going, she throws a huge fit. I simply thought she was fighting going back to bed which she usually does but even after I picked her up and cuddled her she was not ready to sleep. I was frustrated to say the least because after she is fed at midnight I usually prepare her food for her 6 am feeding and do a little reading in bed before sleeping myself. So to say I was tired would be an understatement. I have never had trouble with her before with going back to bed. So I grabbed her swing, put her lights and music on and turned on Dora on the television. This worked, but only for a little bit, she started to get really whiny sitting there so I thought maybe she was ready to finally go back to sleep, MAN WAS I WRONG. When I went to lay her in her crib she through an even bigger fit then the time before. Thoroughly cranky her and I both did this little song and dance for about 7 hours until FINALLY at 1pm she fell asleep on our bed. I breathed a sigh of relief but it didn't last long becuase an hour later she was up again, this short nap was out of the norm becuase usually she sleeps for about 2 to 3 hours. She ended up going back to bed at 3ish for about another hour before we had to leave to go to Ambers birthday dinner at her house! Tuesday was the first time Audrey had ever thrown a fit like that and I think it is a sign of things to come. Luckily she was back on routine today even though her nap was not as long as usual. I think she is going through a growth spurt which means I better get sleep when I can becuase im starting to feel the same way we did when we first brough her home! Thankgoodness for Dora and noise making swings and lily pads! Got any tips for a baby who wont sleep? I woud LOVE to hear them and try it out!

Taco Tuesday for Birthdays!!

One of my best friends just turned 23 today!! Her boyfriend, myself and a few of our other best friends wanted to plan something fun for her that she would love! We surprised her Saturday with Go Karts down by the water at Point Defiance since she has been wanting to go for a while now! Go karting was a lot of fun, it made us all feel like kids again, whipping around the track at 20 miles an hour!! I wish the weather was a little warmer but it still didn't ruin our day! Since we had some time to kill, I.E 4 hours before her surprise dinner we all decided to go indoor put put at Towers! They just redid their 18 hole course so we were all pretty excited! After put put we all went to freshen up for dinner and then headed to AZTECA for some Mexican! We totally embarrassed her when we told them it was her birthday! After the meal, they came out with a large sombrero and sang happy birthday to her in Spanish! I'm sure she hated us for it but hey, at least she got a free dessert out of it! Overall it was a great day! Today was her actual birthday so we planned to do Tacos at her house! Mike decorated the apartment, I made a 4 layer dip which was good and we had a really great time! I love her to death! Happy Birthday Amber!! Here are some photos from both days!

Babbles

Audrey was full of life today! The whole time we were running errands and even at home she was just talking away, it was really cute! She can almost say "da da" which is really exciting!Nathan really loves it! We have been working with her everyday on saying Momma and Dada but she seems to really like the work dada. She has been doing really well with sitting up on her own! She is getting mroe and more upper body strength! I am hoping by Thanksigiving she can can do it all by herself! Today was a day of errands! We had to go get things for the houes like milk, eggs and cheese, just the usual but I wanted to make this flatbread dijon chicken pizza. So I picked up organic flatbread for the base! Once I got home I grilled up chunks of chicken, 1/2 cup of onions and 1 clove of garlic in olive oil. Once that was done I spread the dijon mustard on the flat bread, put down a layer of cheddar and mozzarella cheese. I topped the cheese with the chicken, onions and garlic and then sprinked the rest of the cheese on top! Bake that for about 10 minutes at 450 degrees! It was amazing and so fresh!Tomorrow is taco tuesday at amber and Mikes apartment for Ambers birthday! I am making a taco layered dip!! YUM!

Seahawks and Sundays

Today was an overall productive day. Nathan woke up early, around 8 am to watch football all day. He has been doing his fantasy football league and doing pretty well. If he is number 1 after week 6 we get a $250 gift card to Best Buy which is exciting! While he was awake, Audrey and I slept in today which felt amazing. We did not get out of bed until 12:30am!! I started my day right away since most of it was already behind me. I made Pecan Swirl Coffee Cake Muffins for brunch and started laundry right away. The muffins were quick and easy, I made them from a box which only required me to mix, poor and bake, my kind of recipe! Once they were out of the oven the Seahawks game was on!Perfect timing! While the game was on and I had Audrey fed I folded laundry and put the clothes away. Then I started looking through a big stack of magazines my grandma brought me! I was looking for all kind of ideas from recipes, decor, organization and holiday fun! I found some great finds that I am excited to try! I found these really great Mugs that I want to get for Nathan and I for our coffee in the mornings! They are very much Nathans style of skulls and cross bones but they have an eerie elegance to them that I love! Here is the list of recipes that I will be trying over the next month or so!

  • Mini Potato Corn Cakes and Cheddar and Sour Cream
  • Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies
  • Roasted Pork with Blackberry Sauce
  • Oven Chicken Salad
  • Chicken Parmesan
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Peanut Butter Blondies
  • Smoky Philly Cheesesteak Pizza
  • Chili Cheese Biscuit Pies
  • Pomegranate Chicken with Walnuts
  • Philly Cheese Steak Stuffed Garlic Bread

Along with recipes I found some great books that I want to read once I
am done with the twilight series! Now that Audrey is being more and more independent with tummy time and learning to sit up by herself I am finding a little time to indulge with a good book! Here are the books I found today!

  • Last Night in twisted River by John Irving
  • Enemies of the People by Kati Marton
  • Louisa May Alcott by Harriet Reisen
  • The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver
  • South of Broad by Pat Conroy
  • The Calligraphers Daughter by Eugenia Kim
  • Strength in What Remains by Tracy Kidder
  • A Gate of the Stairs by Lorrie Moore

Audrey had a great day! She slept a lot today which normally has me concerned but she is growing a lot which entails her to sleep and EAT more! This week we tried SQUASH!! She loved it especially when we pair it with plums! Once she is older and can sit up she will be getting more finger food like apple puffs and biter biscuits! Tomorrow is full of errands but still going to be fun! Our little family is gearing up for the holidays and couldnt be more excited!
